Meet our Solemate, Mary Barchetto!

HI! I’m Mary Barchetto.

I’m 41 and I am the stay at-home mom to three kids – Molly, Annie and Matt.  Besides being a GOTR coach, I am a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader and I volunteer at a local women’s shelter.
I started running 8 years ago after the birth of my third child.  I never actually thought I “could” run.  It was hard! “Maybe I should stick with power walking”, I thought.  But I stuck with it and running quickly became my escape – calming my mind and helping strengthen my body to deal with the demands of mothering three children under five years old.
I became involved in GOTR two years ago when a friend, Deihdra Miller, approached me to be an assistant coach.  I didn’t really feel qualified, but I thought how feeling physically strong translates into feeling strong in the rest of my life.  “If I can run a mile I can do this too!”  I thought about showing even one girl the transformative power of physical strength and encouraging her to believe in herself to achieve a goal- that would be something I definitely wanted to be a part of.  Now at the beginning of my fifth season, I couldn’t imagine my life without GOTR.
I am so excited to be a Solemate! I think every girl should have the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful, life-changing program.  Knowing the money I raise will help bring this kind of joy and power into a girl’s life is so, so rewarding.
