Meet our Solemate Stephanie

Meet our Solemate Stephanie

Meet our Solemate, Stephanie!!!!
“My name is Stephanie, I didn’t begin to run until I was 33 years old and I’ll always wish I found running earlier in life. I am a mom to two amazing daughters and I’m so happy to show them that it’s never too late to try something new and set a new goal for yourself. I ran my first half marathon in December and I’m excited for my next half in April. I just started my 3rd season coaching GOTR, I love everything about this important program. I became a solemate to help provide more girls with the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing organization.”

Thanks Stephanie! You are a rockstar!

Meet our Solemate Wendy!

Meet our Solemate Wendy!

We are really excited that Coach Wendy has joined our Solemates team for the SECOND time this year!

Hi Everyone and thank you for taking the time to look at my fundraising page!

As I am about to take on my second season as a Girls on the Run coach, I decided to take on the role of a SoleMate for the second time as well. This program is incredibly rewarding and when the opportunity arose to do it for the NYC Half Marathon, I knew I HAD to do it.
My goal for this race is to raise $1,600 which is enough to provide 5 girls a scholarship for a full season.
please consider donating ANY amount to this amazing organization.
Love,
Wendy

Meet our Solemate Erin!

Meet our Solemate Erin!

Hi! I am Erin and I will be starting my 2nd season as a GOTR coach for Mohawk Ave in Sparta, NJ this Spring. I am a mom of 3 young girls and a Trunk Keeper for Matilda Jane Clothing, a boutique style clothing company for Women and Girls.

I ran my first half marathon in 2012 after being encouraged by my father, who started running marathons at 57 years old. We ran most of the course together until his marathon race split off from my half marathon. Finishing that race was the best feeling in the world because I never thought I could run a long distance. In 2016, at the encouragement of my father again, I signed up for the Philadelphia Marathon. We ran the whole race together. He encouraged me during the first half when I was nervous and not so sure I would finish and I encouraged him the second half when he had to slow down due to severe knee pain.

I am not the fastest runner, but nothing gives me a better sense of accomplishment and pride. I see the same thing in my daughter, Alyssa. She is not always the most confident kid, but when she ran her first 5k as a second grader she felt like she could conquer the world. I knew that day I would coach her GOTR team when she entered 3rd grade. I want Alyssa and every girl to have a chance to realize their limitless potential and that is why I am running the NYC Half Marathon as a Solemate.

Meet our Solemate Lisa!

Meet our Solemate Lisa!

My name is Lisa Saparito, and I fell in love with Girls on the Run during my first year of teaching in Sparta almost 4 years ago. Girls on the Run allowed me to connect with my students in another element aside from my physical education classes, and reflect on my own character. Over the years I have volunteered for Girls on the Run NJ North as a coach, angel runner, running buddy, and now two-time SoleMate.
This year I will be flying to sunny La Jolla, California to run the La Jolla 1/2 Marathon on April 23, 2017 as a SoleMate. I am excited to be raising money to help get girls into our chapter of GOTR. I strive to be a positive role model in our community and teach my students and GOTR girls to be their best self! I run because it makes me feel confident, determined, relaxed, and healthy.
Some other fun facts about me are that aside from running, I love the beach, reading, travelling, lifting weights, penguins, and the color red. I am also graduating this May with my Master’s Degree, so training for this half marathon will be my therapy! Thanks for your support and wish me luck!!

Important Message from our Board of Directors

Dear Girls on the Run Community,

The Board of Directors for Girls on the Run New Jersey North is pleased to announce new staffing changes to our council leadership structure that will enable our council to continue to build a sustainable program and expand program impact in our communities of Bergen, Passaic, Hudson and Sussex counties.   Deb Siipola, the founding Executive Director for Girls on the Run New Jersey North, will be moving from the Executive Director position to Director of Partnerships and Development.  Deb has been the Executive Director for last five years, first in a volunteer capacity and then as a part-time employee.

During her tenure, Deb helped establish the council, expand the council into 4 counties, and provide scholarships for over 200 girls.  In the past 5 years, GOTR NJN has served over 2000 girls.  Recognizing that it is time for the council to have a full-time executive director, Deb has decided to step down from the Executive Director role and will provide leadership to the council in new ways.  The board is incredibly grateful for the leadership that Deb provided during her tenure and in this transition and are thrilled she will still be part of the leadership structure at New Jersey North.  Deb stated, “Serving as Executive Director has been a wonderful experience. I have grown in many ways and will always treasure the opportunities provided to me. I am excited for this new challenge and grateful to be a part of this amazing organization as we continue to grow and serve more girls.”

The Board is also excited to announce that Maureen Dykstra will become our new Executive Director as of October 17, 2016.  As a founding Board member and GOTR coach, Maureen has already contributed to our council’s success and is thrilled to move into this full time role.  Through coaching, Maureen has seen firsthand the positive changes in the body and mind that a healthy lifestyle can make in a child’s life.   Maureen graduated from Syracuse University and she worked for many years as a pharmaceutical sales representative.

It has always been our goal to provide a quality program for our girls and allow all girls the ability to reach their “limitless potential.”  We are truly looking forward to the next chapter in our council’s growth and development.

With gratitude,

The Board of Directors at Girls on the Run New Jersey North

Meet our Solemates Jenn and Ryan!

Meet our Solemates Jenn and Ryan!

Jen and Ryan here!  Please help us in our fundraising campaign for Girls on the Run!  GOTR is an international non-profit charitable organization that works with young girls around the world to address the social issues that girls that age are faced with while simultaneously incorporating running into the curriculum in unique and fun ways.  It is truly a unique and outstanding organization. The money we are raising goes 100% to the GOTR/NJ North scholarship fund….as GOTR never turns girls down because they cannot afford the program.  I, Jen,  have been involved with GOTR in the past as a running buddy and I wanted to find another way to help out, so I decided to become a SOLEMATE and help build on the scholarship fund!

We are planning to run the Alexa Thunder Run 1/2 Marathon in November but if we aren’t properly trained in time, we plan to cheer on all our friends running the NYC Marathon that day!….so please help us in reaching our goal of $750 by that time!  Ryan and I are running pals and he hopes that one day his daughter can participate in this wonderful program, once she is old enough.

Meet our Solemates Carrie and her daughter, Maggie!

Meet our Solemates Carrie and her daughter, Maggie!

Carrie Allport first started volunteering with Girls on the Run in San Antonio in 2012. From the beginning, she wished she had had something like Girls on the Run when she was a girl growing up.  She has served as a coach, a running buddy, and a SoleMate, as well as a busy bee behind the scenes recruiting & training coaches, coordinating volunteer efforts, supporting events & 5Ks, communicating through social media channels, fundraising & donor appreciation through organization development, and now, most importantly, as a GOTR parent & cheerleader! The mission and core values of Girls on the Run inspires her and her daughters to live a joy-filled, healthy, and confident lifestyle.

What better way to share their love of GOTR with others than as SoleMates? Carrie and her daughter, Maggie, are raising funds for GOTRNJN as they prepare to run the Girls on the Run New Jersey North 5K this Fall.  Maggie was the recipient of scholarship assistance for registration fees last Fall and had an amazing opportunity to participate on a team at her school. She wanted to pay it forward and help raise scholarship monies for other girls who desire the same experience with GOTRNJN.

By serving as SoleMates, they are doing much more than achieving a personal fitness goal. They are sharing their own commitment to the values Girls on the Run is instilling in girls everywhere to celebrate their physical and emotional health. They are advocating for all girls and future generations of women who understand and embrace who they are, define who they want to be, rise to any challenge, and know they can change the world!

Meet our Solemate Wendy!

Meet our Solemate Wendy!

My name is Wendy and I am at stay at home mom to three wonderful kids, Brooke (9), Brandon (7), and Leah (4).  I’ve always been active but I’ve never been a runner until recently. I started running in September 2015. My first 5k was that same month, followed by my first half marathon in April 2016, and now my first marathon in November 2016. It’s been an amazing “first year” of running!!

When I am not running I love spending time with my husband and children. I spend a lot of time on the sidelines of their sports games and being their chauffeur.

I am looking forward to being a coach for my first season of GOTR this fall and sharing this new found passion with my team of girls and my 9yr old daughter. It’s never to late to try something new and nothing is impossible!

Meet our Solemate Stacy!

Meet our Solemate Stacy!

As a Girls On The Run SoleMate, my goal is to raise funds for scholarships to allow girls who cannot otherwise enroll in this life changing program. Girls On The Run encourages pre-teen girls to live a healthy lifestyle through fitness and inspires them to be confident through spiritual development. I’m running the Summer Solstice 5K Trail Run on June 24, 2016 in honor of this wonderful program. Please consider making a donation to my page to help me reach my goal. Every little bit helps another girl to participate!
